Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is out and I'm excited to see what this year has in store. Right now I'm at COD: Next, getting a look into the future of Call of Duty. I played the Black Ops 7 beta multiplayer build and was impressed by the way Treyarch built upon the foundations of Black Ops 6 as well as how fresh and new the 2035 setting made everything feel.
It was always possible that Call of Duty would feel stale after two consecutive Black Ops games. 10. This is a true sequel of bo7 codes
Black Ops 7 is set 40 years after the predecessor of this game, but it's more about refinement than revolution. Treyarch went to great lengths in order to introduce new weapons (there are 30, including 16 that debut for the first-time in franchise history), Scorestreaks, which reflect the setting of 2035, and a suite new maps and modes. Black Ops 7 is a very focused version of Black Ops 6, but it's not a new game. This is because Treyarch developed BO7 in parallel with Black Ops 6, and BO7 builds on its predecessor in some clever, but clearly iterative, ways.
9. It's more tactical to match pace
If you were frustrated by the chaos and speed of Black Ops 6's multiplayer, I am happy to say that Black Ops 7 is a bit more balanced. Omnimovement has been refined, and this helps deliver a more grounded experience. The global TTK (time to kill) is also more balanced. Do players still have issues using sniper weapons that are more powerful (and fire faster) than a shotgun? Some things will never change. Treyarch has learned some valuable lessons in the past year, using player data to refine its core rhythms, recoil models, and overall, it's been a resounding success.
8. More control over movement
Matt Scronce, Treyarch's design director, insists that Omnimovement is not slower between Black Ops 6 & Black Ops 7. However, something has changed. It feels more relaxed than Black Ops 6, but this could be due to the removal of Tactical Sprint as a default option. This was done in order to improve multiplayer flow on Core 6v6 map. Omnimovement still feels outrageous. The ability to sprint and slide in any direction adds new depth to the most basic combat encounters. However, it is more controlled in Black Ops 7 It feels that way until you try out some of the new Perks for loadouts focused on mobility.
7. Some of the previous moves tech has been tied to perks
Tactical Sprint wasn't the only feature removed from basic play. You can't ADS any longer on slides or dives. You can bring back these abilities through the Perks System, and there are many other ways to make Omnimovement bigger than life. Each loadout has three Perk slots, and a fourth if you add the Wildcard. These can be used to fine-tune your playstyle. I think that the changes made to Omnimovement were for the better, but they can still be reversed if you equip Tac Sprinter, which enables Tactical Sprint, but reduces the normal sprint speed, as well as Dexterity, which allows full ADS when doing wall jumps, diving, or sliding.
6. Combining combat specialties now grants special bonuses
Hybrid Combat Specialties is a fantastic new addition to Perks. Black Ops 6 introduced Combat Specialty. This was a system whereby equipping three Perks from the same category activated a bonus. A nice idea, albeit a little narrow. When you combine Perks from different categories, BO7 now allows you to activate Hybrid Combat Specialties. The Scout Perk (made up of Red and Green Perks), allows you to stay hidden for 5 seconds from the minimap. Tactician Perk (Red and Green Perks), earns bonus scores from kills when you assist. And Operative Perk (Blue and Green Perks), unlocks a field upgrade charge for stealth kills. This is a fantastic change that allows you to lock in your preferred playstyles.
